Never stop advertising!

When trying to find new accounts (and in the past as a salesperson) I have often heard people tell me that they can’t afford to advertise because of the economy. Today, I came across a quote that explains my reaction quite well:

A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops a clock to save time.

-Henry Ford

It absolutely does not make sense to stop advertising. Cutbacks in spending are understandable, but your business can’t move forward if you aren’t letting people know what you do or persuading them to use your services. What you put in is what you get out. The minute you stop putting money into advertising, consumers stop hearing your message. So, instead of cutting back on the amount of advertising you are doing, look for a way to get more valuable (the same amount) of marketing for less money.
